MAN ARRESTED FOR CHEATING BY PERSONATION WITHIN 24 HOURS #sgpolicearrest Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for Cheating by Personation where he is believed to have identified himself as a Police Officer to deceive victims on the pretext that he would be able to obtain an extension of their social visit passes. On 30 November 2014 at about 1.00am, Police received a report from a 29-year-old female victim regarding her encounter at Smith Street, where the suspect had identified himself as a Police Officer with a card which resembled a Police Warrant Card. The suspect then told her that he was able to obtain an extension to her social visit pass for S$1,050. The victim gave him S$400 as a deposit and had agreed to settle the balance on the next day. However, the victim became suspicious of the suspect after the transaction and lodged a Police report thereafter. Officers from the Central Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him in an operation at Smith Street on the same day at about 11.15pm. The suspect is believed to be involved in other similar cases. The suspect was charged in court on 2 December 2014. Police would like to remind the public to be vigilant and wary of persons who may impersonate as Police Officers to facilitate the commission of their criminal acts. If in doubt, they should request for the Police Officers Warrant Card to verify his identity before complying with the instructions of the officer. If they are still unsure of the persons credibility as a Police Officer, they should call 999 for assistance. More information on how to identify and verify the authenticity of a Police Officer is available at on.fb.me/1vzqmJX.
