MAN FOUND DEAD AT SONESTA MAHO REEF HOTEL On Wednesday August 27th at approximately 02.20 P.M. the Community Police Officers for the Simpson Bay and Lowland areas were called to the Sonesta Maho Reef Hotel. They were called to investigate a case of a man that was found dead at a construction area of the hotel. Immediately the CPOs went to the scene where they found the lifeless body of a man. The officers were told that the man was doing construction work at that hotel. The body of the 54 year old Haitian man was found at the bottom of an elevator shaft in a part of the hotel that was under construction. A doctor came to the scene, he pronounced the death of the man. The paramedics and the Fire Department were also there to assist with the investigation. The investigation done by the police officers indicated that the victim had possibly fallen from one of the upper floors, but they could not determine which one at the time. The police officers were told by witnesses that the Immigration Department was busy with their controls at the hotel and that numerous persons took off running in different directions as they saw the immigration officers coming. At this time we can not tell if the victim was one of the persons fleeing from the control of the Immigrations Department. The Forensic Department and Detectives were on the scene collecting evidence and questioning possible witnesses. Building Safety Inspectors from the VROMI Department were also called to the scene to conduct an investigation. The body of the 54 year old man was confiscated and taken to the morgue as the investigation continues.
