MANILA, Philippines – Police probers are equally considering a business feud and a love triangle as a motive for the shooting death of the girlfriend of Franz Dysam, the Letran Knights player in the NCAA, who was himself injured in an ambush in San Juan City Saturday night by still unidentified armed men. They hope footage from a CCTV camera might lead them to the killers and the mastermind. The business row might have arisen in connection with the fact that Joanne Sordan is a casino financier, probers said. Probers said the killing may have stemmed from a love triangle or the business feud, or both. Initially, police said they were looking into a possible love triangle because Dysam informed probers that Sordan had a former policeman-boyfriend who was harassing them. He also reportedly told police that Sordan had a former boyfriend who is a basketball player. San Juan police chief Supt. Bernard Tamboan said Sunday probers are closely reviewing footage of the incident from a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera that they hope could lead to the ambush suspects and the brains behind it. Joan Sordan died while undergoing treatment at the San Juan Medical Center for a bullet wound in her breast. Dysam is currently confined under tight police security at the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital on Espana Street, Manila. Sordan was driving a gray Nissan Sentra (ZLA-176) on N. Domingo Street near Araneta Avenue when a motorcycle bearing two men stopped beside them and a gunman fired at Sordan. Dysam, who was seated at the passenger’s seat beside Sordan, was also hit by a bullet from a caliber .45 pistol. The wounded Dysam managed to bring Sordan to the hospital, but she succumbed to the fatal chest wound. A Letran statement said Dysam suffered six gunshot wounds while trying to protect her during the incident. “Medical results show that all his vital signs are in good condition. He is scheduled for operation tomorrow to remove four bullets in his body,” said the school. The two suspects, both wearing full helmet, escaped. The partners had just come from an NCAA game where the Knights defeated the Lyceum Pirates. -Admin RR
