MANIPUR CM ANNOUNCES CASH INCENTIVES FOR CWG MEDALISTS IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Friday announced cash awards for the four Manipuri women athletes who bagged laurels at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. K Sanjita Chanu and S Mirabai Chanu bagged gold and silver in weightlifting, while judokas Sushila Likmabam clinched a silver medal and Kalpana Thoudam won bronze. Okram said the state government will give Rs 15 lakh to the gold medal winner, Rs 10 lakh for winning silver and Rs 8 lakh for bronze. Sanjita lifted a total of 173kg (77kg in snatch and 96kg in Clean and Jerk) in womens 48kg event. Compatriot Mirabai won her medal after lifting a total of 170kg (75 + 95). Nigerias Nikechi Opara won the bronze medal with a total lift of 162kg. In womens Judo, Sushila won silver in the 48kg category, while Kalpana won bronze in the womens 52kg Judo event. Okram made his announcement after a congratulatory note on the Manipuri athletes glory was mentioned by opposition MLA I Ibohalbi Singh during zero hour in the ongoing budget session. Members of the House also expressed happiness over the success of the four athletes. Several sports bodies and athletes of the state also congratulated the winners.
