MARKING STRIKE: UPDATE The university continues to be hostile - TopicsExpress

MARKING STRIKE: UPDATE The university continues to be hostile towards their own employees and announced that it will be docking 100% of the salary of any staff that will participate in the marking boycott. This says a lot about how much worth the lecturers have for the employers, and how much the university values the students, and their educational experience. By this move the university will prevent many from participating in the action, as they will not be able to sustain themselves. Final negotiations between UCEA and UCU will take place tomorrow and it is possible that the union will give in and call off the strike. Such prospect is quite tragic since it would practically mean loss of credibility for the union. There is not much else lecturers will be able to do in future to defend themselves from any kind of conditions imposed on them by the employers. There will be an article in Guardian tomorrow about this with a list of universities that decided to withhold 100% of the salary (Westminster is one of them) and a DEMONSTRATION in front of the venue where the negotiations will take place. Please inbox me for the details of the demonstration if you are interested, I do not have the details yet but can update you later on (I only found out today).
