MARKS BEST MOVIE SONGS EVER (1955-99) COUNTDOWN ... NO. 37 KISS FROM A ROSE--SEAL (#1, 1995, Batman Forever) The second of two songs in this countdown for British singer-songwriter Seal (born Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel on February 19, 1963 in Paddington, England), this one was first recorded for his second Seal CD/cassette in 1994 (which included the hit song Prayer For The Dying). While it was not released in the U.S., it hit No. 20 in England. Less than a year later, director Joel Schumacher heard the song and called Seal personally to ask if he could use the song in a love scene involving Bruce Wayne/Batman (played by Val Kilmer) and Dr. Chase Meridian (played by Nicole Kidman). He accepted, but the song wasnt put into that particular scene, instead going into the credits at the end of the movie, a move Seal said himself thought helped with the promotion of the song. It came onto the American charts in July 1995 and over a month later, it became Seals first No. 1 song. Unlike the dark tone of the first two Batman movies, this one was a little more family-friendly, but still had its good guys and bad guys, the bad guys played by Jim Carrey (The Riddler) and Tommy Lee Jones (Two-Face), who try to extract information from all the important people of Gotham City in the hopes of using it against Batman to find out his true identity and to take control of the city. U2s Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me from the movie was back at No. 242 and Seals other song in this countdown was his remake of the Steve Miller Bands Fly Like An Eagle from Space Jam at No. 235. Thoughts, memories? Enjoy!
