MASSACHUSETTS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY SITUATIONAL AWARENESS STATEMENT JULY 3, 2014 5:30 PM Hurricane Arthur The National Hurricane Center has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Barnstable (From Provincetown to Chatham) and Nantucket counties related to Hurricane Arthur. The 5 p.m. models show Arthur shifting slightly west, and is expected to pass 90-100 miles east of Nantucket around 9 p.m. on Friday night. The Cape and Islands may see sustained winds of 40-45 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph and potential for 2-4 inches of rainfall. MEMA Operations MEMA is operating at Level II (Partial Activation) today. MEMA continues to monitor the track of Hurricane Arthur and continues to prepare for a worst case scenario (meaning landfall on the Cape or Islands). MEMA is engaged with its Emergency Support Function (ESFs) partners and will bring in some ESFs beginning tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. Tomorrow MEMA will conduct a statewide conference call for local emergency management directors and local, regional and state public safety partners and at least one conference call with the National Weather Service. MEMA will disseminate additional Situational Awareness Statements as needed.
