MATCH REPORT :- Stockport County 0 North Ferriby United 1 Matt Wilson An early second-half goal from skipper Matt Wilson gave Ferriby a deserved win at Stockport. Ferriby took all the honours in the first-half at Edgeley Park. In front of a large but surprisingly subdued home crowd, the hosts did not manage one attempt on goal. Ferriby’s defence was solid against a mainly aerial threat with Nathan Woolfe on the left being County’s most dangerous player. In an open game, Ferriby had 12 attempts on goal but still finished the half goalless. John D’Laryea and Liam King largely bossed midfield, frequently freeing Danny Emerton and Dan Clayton down the wings. Tom Denton’s lay-offs created a number of opportunities for The Villagers. Ferriby’s first real attempt on goal was a Denton header that went wide. Shortly after, Emerton picked-up a loose clearance but fired his 20-yard drive straight at keeper Danny Hurst. Emerton, Jarman twice and King all went close. With half-time approaching, Jarman almost scored with a neat flick curled past the top corner before firing narrowly wide. Emerton was desperately unlucky not to score on the turn. Good work between Emerton and Jarman eneded with the winger sliding a shot just past the far post. Stockport finally rallied and had a 10 minute spell where they offered a threat.. Jamie Milligan fired over when well-placed. Richard Baker headed over from a corner and then fired a free-kick straight at Adam Nicklin. This was in the 60th minute and was County’s first shot actually on target. Jack Ryan then fired over Before Ferriby gradually re-took control of the game. A goalmouth scramble finally saw Stockport clear the ball. Hurst came out to save with his feet as Jarman burst through and the striker was unlucky to see a header go narrowly wide. County had an opportunity to snatch a point deep in to time added-ob but Kris Dennis’s free-kick was deflected wide by one of his own players. This was a highly disciplined and organised performance by Ferriby. The score-line did not reflect their overall display but everybody as delighted with the result. Manager Billy Heath commented, “Great first day. They had a 10 minute period after we scored but we were solid. It’s always good to get the first win of the season on the first day of the season. We could have won by more but the result is fantastic.” NFU: Adam Nicklin, Dean Lisle), Nathan Peat, Liam King (Russ Fry 77), Matt Wilson, Gregg Anderson, Danny Emerton, Jon D’Laryea, Tom Denton (Josh Wilde 89), Nathan Jarman, Dan Clayton (Adam Bolder 65) Subs not used: Antoni Pecora, Mark Gray, Stockport County: Danny Hurst, Glenn Belezika, Scott Duxbury, Jamie Milligan (Ian Ormson 57), Danny Gregson, Mark lees, Ryan Jack, Chris Churchman, Kristian Dennis, Richard Baker, Nathan Woolfe (Scott Spencer 88).
