MATCH REPORT: Katella Knights vs. Savanna HS at Savanna HS - 01/24/14 - V/JV/FS Since the New Year, Katella Soccer’s Varsity, JV, and Frosh-Soph have not lost a regularly scheduled game! Other than a couple ties against Century, Katella has swept Orange, Valley, and Magnolia at all levels of play!! And now add Savanna to that list! Last Friday, Katella Soccer traveled to Savanna to face the Rebels where both the Varsity and JV Knights won 3-0 and Frosh-Soph won by a score of 3-1. All three teams are sitting at the top of the Orange League with near perfect records. Katella’s Varsity Knights easily outplayed Savanna winning 3-0. Jose Troncoso’s goal with an assist by Fabian Cobian, and then Cobian’s goal off an assist from Hilario Sanabia put the Knights up 2-0 at halftime. In the 2nd half on a penalty against Troncoso in the box, Jerry Favila converted the penalty kick for Katella’s third goal! “Player of the Game” honors went to Hilario Sanabia for his efforts in the match. The Varsity Knights are now 10-2-3 overall and tied for 1st place in league with its 3-0-1 record. The JV Knights were still tied 0-0 at halftime before “Player of the Game” Erik Placenscia took matters into his own hands (or feet?) scoring all three goals against the Rebels in Katella’s 3-0 victory! Assists came first from Kevin Lopez and the next two from Abraham Gonzalez! The JV Knights remain perfect at 4-0-0 in league and 10-1-2 overall. And the Frosh-Soph Knights fell behind early 1-0 trailing at halftime before waking up in the 2nd half to win 3-1 over Savanna. “Player of the Game,” Anthony Gutierrez scored the first and third goals, and was fouled in the penalty area for an assist on the kick taken by Ricardo Hernandez for the 2nd goal. Hernandez and Wblester Palacios both gave assists on the goals by Gutierrez. The Frosh-Soph Knights are now 2-0-1 in league and 6-3-3 overall. Katella Soccer puts their reputation and records on the line on Wednesday as the teams visit Anaheim in a battle for sole possession of 1st place. Varsity kicks off at 3:15pm, but JV starts earlier at 2:45pm and Frosh-Soph later at 4:00pm. Come on out and support the teams! GO, KNIGHTS!
