MATTHEW S. GORKA OBITUARY Matthew (Matt) S. Gorka, 31, of Clifton Park passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2014. He was born in Albany, NY on October 25, 1982 to Richard Gorka and Linda A. Baker. He attended CBA, Shenendehowa and HVCC where he was on the Presidents List for high honors. He was currently attending SUNY IT, Utica where he was studying towards his degree in mechanical engineering. A hard working handyman, he founded Gorka’s Contracting and installed radiant heating to clients in NYC, such as Sarah Jessica Parker (Al Pachino decided to go with cold floors). Matt was beloved by all. Between his mischievous sense of humor, his infectious smile and unparalleled generosity, Matt warmed the world to all. He was unquestionably the New York Jets number one fan. He was fun-loving, outgoing and adventurous, loving to play just about any sport, be it hockey, snowmobiling, snowboarding, golf or rock climbing. This intelligent, determined, focused young man was a most loving, committed and protective father. His sons describe him as being so very “strong”. This was evidenced by Matt’s juggling family life, his job with his father and a demanding, hectic school schedule. Even so, Matt still made time for friends and family whom he loved with unbridled passion. His fearlessness in tackling life’s challenges while maintaining such a positive, light-hearted attitude was admired by all who knew him. The oft heard “Matt-isims” such as “Keep it real” or “Don’t go chasing waterfalls” were lessons born of overcome, hard-earned personal hardships. He never gave up; his course remained true, he lived life to the fullest. An inspiration and example to all, his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him. He is the son of Linda A. (Don) Baker, (Halfmoon, NY) and Richard Gorka (Clifton Park). He is brother to Melissa (Tim) Joslyn, (Latham, NY), and Danielle Gorka, (Latham, NY). He is the dedicated father to KC Deuel and Matthew Gorka, (Scotia, NY), loving and devoted fiancee and soul mate to Lindsey Mahserian, (Clifton Park), uncle to Cassandra Harris, Mikayla and Alexandra Joslyn, Kevin and Connor Baker and Gavin Will. He was best friend to Mike Kucik, (Savannah, GA) and cherished friend to so many others. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 12th from 4-8pm at Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park. A mass will take place on Thursday, February 13th at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham.
