MCLP have the obective of studying Marine Caves of the Portuguese coast, providing the collected information to the interested community. It is constituted by volunteers of all types such as scientists, speleologists, cave divers and many others. Descrição Marine caves are priority habitats for conservation purposes and a Special Area of Conservation (SACs). The water movement and availability of light are the most important factors that control the distribution of organisms inside this habitat, differing significantly with the distance from the entrance to the inner portions. Regarding Atlantic marine caves, especially in the Portuguese coast very little is known. There is an absence of literature describing species composition, distribution patterns and ecological features in these caves. These marine caves have areas that are dominated by systems and natural values of recognized value and interest. With a high value of plainness, this habitat assumes a character of exceptionality as well as high ecological sensitivity corresponding to important areas of marine production, places of refuge and nursery to numerous species.
