MDA and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) to hold a joint workshop on Best Practices for Gene Therapy Programs on Tuesday, April 22, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET via live webcast. The goals of this co-sponsored workshop are to bring together experts from academia, industry, and regulatory agencies to address core challenges in the development of gene therapy for neuromuscular diseases and develop recommendations to help guide specific efforts in neuromuscular disease, the broader field of gene therapy in neurological disorders, and NINDS translational program decisions. The focus will be on three neuromuscular diseases: spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Discussion will be based on where unmet medical need and the state of the science is compelling, as well as where the NINDS and the MDA missions intersect. Participants will have expertise in discovery and development of treatments for these diseases, particularly using in gene therapy development. The general audience is invited to view the live conference proceedings via webcast at: videocast.nih.gov/summary.asp?live=13409
