MDC-T poll utterances blasted: Some local media and political analysts say the MDC-T leader’s attempt to use SADC to break the law and violate the Zimbabwean constitution should not be accepted or tolerated as it is a violation of the country’s sovereignty. The remarks come amid reports that Mr Morgan Tsvangirai wants SADC to intervene in delaying the electoral process in Zimbabwe ahead of expiry of the inclusive government on the 29th of this month. According to a Constitutional Court ruling passed on Friday 31st of May, Zimbabweans should go to the polls not later than the 31st July, 2013. Media practitioner and analyst Caesar Zvayi says there is no reason why the life of the inclusive government should be extended as the country is not at war. Zvayi also said there is no state of emergency in the country, the only reasons why the tenure of parliament can be extended according to the supreme law of the land. He added that SADC cannot force Zimbabweans to violate its own supreme law. Another analyst Gabriel Chaibva said the supreme law of the land should be respected and it is unfortunate that some political parties have not prepared for the polls. He also dismissed as baseless utterances by South African President Jacob Zuma’s spokesperson Lindiwe Zulu that Zimbabweans should ensure that the polls roadmap is implemented before the elections. She reminded the former SA representative to Geneva that she has no right to meddle in Zimbabwe’s constitutional matters and that Zimbabwe is not a province of South Africa. zbc.co.zw/news-categories/top-stories/32743-mdc-t-poll-date-utterances-blasted.html
