MDC will continue pursuing democratic change - Chamisa Tuesday, 03 September 2013 Chivi –The MDC will continue to pursue democratic change in Zimbabwe despite the outcome of the disputed plebiscite on 31 July, the MDC national organising secretary, Hon. Nelson Chamisa has said. He said this while addressing hundreds of mourners and party supporters at the burial of MDC provincial secretary for welfare, Mai Ndaizivei Kasonso at Sese Business Centre on Sunday. Hon. Chamisa said the outcome of the controversial election did not reflect the true will of the people of Zimbabwe. “You are all aware that we do not agree with the outcome of the July 31 election because it was a farce. The whole process was fraudulent and therefore the plebiscite is illegitimate. “We still maintain on the need to have free and fair polls that reflect the true will of the people of Zimbabwe. Zanu PF stole the election and let me reiterate that change is inevitable and no one can stop the wave of change,” he said. Mai Kasonso who died on Friday at Masvingo provincial hospital after a short illness was described as a committed cadre who worked tirelessly for the party despite being intimidated and harassed by Zanu PF supporters. “We have lost a brave and dedicated party member who worked tirelessly,” said Hon. Chamisa. “She had a vision to improve the welfare of the people in the party. She was running an orphanage home and as such President Tsvangirai has pledged to support the orphanage. Her desire was to contribute towards democratic change and her vision must live on,” he said. He said the late Mai Kasonso would be remembered for her unwavering support for party members who were tortured and tormented in 2008 by the Zanu PF regime. “We will remember her for the brave stance she took in 2008 during the height of the Zanu PF terror campaign and she will be missed by all party members in the province,” said Hon. Chamisa. The national welfare secretary, Hon. Lucia Matibenga described Mai Kasonso as a likeable person who gave maximum effort in all her endeavours. “We worked together for a short period but she is someone whom I would count on for support at all times. She would respond to call of duty at anytime and she was willing to do extra tasks,” said Hon. Matibenga. The provincial chairperson, Wilstaff Sitemere said scores of party supporters sought refuge at Mai Kasonso’s house during the Zanu PF terror campaign in 2008. At the time of her death Kasonso had been appointed into the Masvingo Provincial Council. Hundreds of party supporters converged at Sese Business Centre to bid farewell to the party’s legend popularly known as Mai Maggie in the province.
