MEDIA ALERT To: All Media Date: : Saturday, 19 April 2014 Attention : News Editors/ Transport Reporters / PR WIRES OBSERVATIONS ON THE NATIONAL ROADS ____________________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) together with its road safety partners have heightened efforts to ensure compliance of road rules and regulations during this Easter Period. Since the start of the holidays, law enforcement officers and traffic monitors have observed the following repeated infringements-: • Broken-down vehicles that are parked on the shoulders of the road, without switching on hazards/ or displaying a red triangle/warning sign to other motorists, • Motorists hogging the right lane and reluctant to observe” keep left pass right” regulation, • Passengers who loiter on the verge of the road during stoppages of vehicles, • Impatience displayed by motorists and passengers at roadside traffic check points, tollgates and road construction, • Abrupt and dangerous stopping by motorists to pick up hitch-hickers, • Open display of rage by motorists towards others, • Many overloaded, un-roadworthy and un-licensed trailers on the arterial routes. Motorists are advised to be introspective and behave more responsibly as their safety and that of their families are in their hands. It is worth noting that there has been an increase in road safety compliance on all major routes. We would like to express our gratitude to all motorists who heeded to our road safety call and, we urge them to continue being safe road users. Those who are still refusing to comply, unfortunately they leave us with no choice but to deal with them decisively with vigorous enforcement.
