MEDIA, PUBLIC INVITED TO CONGRESSIONAL FIELD HEARING IN ROSWELL TODAY Washington, DC (Aug. 5, 2014) Media and the public is invited to attend a Full Committee Oversight Field Hearing today at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center, 912 N. Main St., Roswell. Congressman Steve Pearce (NM-02) and Congressman Jeff Miller (FLA-01) will be available for media following the hearing at 12:45 p.m. Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) will also attend the hearing. Congressman Pearce requested the hearing by Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Rep. Jeff Miller, of Florida, to explore the challenges of local veterans and their experiences accessing care through the New Mexico VA Health Care System. A national audit of VAs found problems with the scheduling practices at the Albuquerque VA Medical Center. During the hearing, the Committee will examine the challenges of receiving VA care while living in rural America, how scheduling practices and limited access to local facilities have impacted the care, as well as how we can work together to improve access to care for New Mexico veterans. Congressman Pearce and Chairman Miller will later meet with officials of Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and Lovelace Regional Hospital to discuss details of a Pilot Project that he has facilitated with the Albuquerque VA administration for Roswell-area veterans. Veterans involved in the project will be able to see local providers for appointments.
