MEDIA RELEASE - AAICE DIWALI 2013 Diwali In Regional Victoria – The Festival Of Lights Bringing Cultures Together in Ballarat Showgrounds on Sat, 23rd November 2013 between 12pm & 7pm The Australian Association For Indian Culture and Education (AAICE) will be celebrating, “ Diwali – The Festival Of Lights –Bringing Cultures Together”, for the very first time in Ballarat on Saturday the 23 Nov’ 2013 in one of the most popular venues, the Ballarat Showgrounds between 12pm & 7pm. As per the AAICE’s event co-ordination team, the talks are on with the local Council, Businesses, Community Associations and Media for an effective business relationship and participation in this regional multicultural initiative of AAICE. Diwali 2012 in Geelong – Supported by Office Of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship (OMAC) The idea of bringing Diwali to regional Victoria was initiated by the chairperson of the organisation, Mr Amitabh Singh. Amitabh when working on the Desalination project was temporarily living in regional Victoria, that’s when he realised the immense vacuum of cultural events. The cultural committee of the organisation started on materialising the idea of celebrating Diwali in regional areas of Victoria. And finally with all their efforts and hard-work the festival was organised in Geelong in 2012, which was supported by Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship (OMAC) and received well by the local CALD as well as the wider community. Diwali 2013 in Ballarat – Supported by Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) This year the event is being kindly supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC). AAICE Inc. has expressed its gratitude and congratulated the Victorian Multicultural Commission in taking the lead in supporting AAICE Inc.’s initiative of bringing cultures together in regional Victoria and celebrating multiculturalism. The main attractions of the event are: • Multi-cuisine, multi-national and multi-cultural food stalls • Multi-cultural performances on the main stage • Magic - show • Fashion – show • Bollywood Dance Workshop • Bollywood Live Band • Bollywood Apparels • Mehndi / Henna Stall • Cultural displays and many more surprise items In order to attract audience from Melbourne as well as from other regional towns in the vicinity of Ballarat e.g. Geelong, Ararat, Bacchus Marsh etc., AAICE has comprehensive marketing plans. Ms Roshni Sharma, a renowned personality in Indian and Fijian communities in Melbourne will be one of the event ambassadors. Another well-known personality from Australian-Indian community based in Ballarat would be our local event ambassador. OUR INTER-CULTURAL LINKS Dr K. P. Saratchandran, a medical practitioner and a musician; Mr Islam Naqvi, a well-known community artist, who made Australia their home 40 -50 years ago and have since been serving community, will be representing the seniors’ faction of AAICE. Katlyn a young Australian who can speak Urdu and Hindi very well will be leading our Youth brigade along with Shravani and Shruti. Mr Walter Sheldon-Williams (Australia), Ms Nafis Ahmed (Pakistan), Ms Tilaka Rupasinghe (Srilanka), Ms Ambika Gurung (Bhutan), Ms Salma (Fiji) and many others will be representing AAICE in our Regional Multicultural Celebrations. The executive committee of AAICE is inviting everyone from Melbourne and surrounding area to this grand regional Victorian event to Appreciate, Share and Celebrate the treasures of cultural heritage that we have amongst us. Diwali is the festival of lights, where lights are true depiction of the “Knowledge” which is meant to be shared and spread around. We are fortunate to be in a beautiful country like Australia, which has well and truly embraced people and cultures from all around the world and nourishing those as a florist would take care of all those splendidly beautiful flowers in a bouquet making sure that they are maintaining their uniqueness and individuality and yet adding to the beauty of the bouquet as a whole.
