MEDIA-STATEMENT-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THURSDAY, 15 AUGUST 2013 THE REINSTATEMENT OF DR DUBE AT MUSINA HOSPITAL IS AN UNWARRANTED PROVOCATION OF OUR UNION BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH NEHAWU in Limpopo denounces the actions of the Department of Health in the province for undermining the union ,following their unilateral decision to reinstate the Clinical Manager, Dr Dube back to his position at Musina hospital. We view this as an unwarranted provocation and a blatant attack on the union and we want to make it clear that this action will provoke an appropriate response from our union. Dr Dube was put on special leave by the department pending an investigation, following the allegations made by the union against him. This is the man who was accused of some serious allegations including having fraudulent qualifications, ill-treatment of staff and his poor management of the distribution of antiretrovirals at the hospital. He has since been allowed back to work without the findings of the investigations being made known to us. Subsequent to that our shop stewards at Musina hospital have been charged for raising disturbing issues of mismanagement in the institution. We call on the MEC and the Department to resolve these problems as a matter of urgency and failure to do so will force us to explore our legal options and ultimately consider embarking on a strike action across the province. The department has a tendency to think that stakeholder engagement is something they do as and when they feel like, not as matter of principle or protocol. Our union prides itself of intolerance for disreputable activities and management intransigence. We warn the department that they will have to take responsibility for the consequences of their stubbornness. NEHAWU will never allow its members to be undermined and bullied by the department and we will lead the battle against this department with our usual tenacity and vigour.
