MEDIA STUNTS USED AGAINST JUFFA IN HIS FIGHT TO STOP ILLEGAL LOGGING 01/10/14 On the 26th of Sept the Post Courier published an article where Mr Juffa had called & written to the Forestry Minister Mr Tomuriesa to terminate the services of Viva Success Ltd an alleged illegal logging company. Juffa stated that Uni Rise Ltd was the initial developer going into agreement with landowner permit holder Yema Gaiapa Developers Ltd to harvest logs in the Yema Forest Area. Uni Rise & Yema Geiapa Ltd have since packed up & gone without any proper transfer arrangement to any parties including Viva Success Ltd. Recently Juffa has cancelled yet another license of another illegal logging operator & established a Land Enforcement Unit to prevent land grabbing. It is the first of its kind in PNG. Suppressed Landowners are now mobilizing to fight for their forestry lands. In light of Governor of Oro’s success in cancelling illegal foreign logging licenses in the Oro Province one has to highly question yesterday’s National newspapers article about Juffa. The National article headline was “Juffa stops crusade for disturbing residents”, when in fact Juffa did not stop the crusade but actually asked the organizers to relocate to a public area instead of holding it on the side of a residential street. Juffa asked the organizers to move to Independence Oval which was a far more appropriate venue as it could contain more people and there was plenty of space for a proper platform stage to be built for presentation of the crusade. Further the article claimed police were involved which was not true as the police never became involved. The organizers had constructed basically a filthy shoe box platform stage on the side of a residential street for their crusade. Juffa stated he “was most disappointed that while the pastors stayed at an expensive hotel they could not afford or plan to build a decent stage in respect to our God. It was a most filthy stage that looked like a tent used by homeless people. God is a God of order and law as it says so often in the bible. Furthermore God is a God of cleanliness. There was none of that in the structure they built and called a stage. It is most disrespectful to our God which we all worship and pray to and shows we do not respect or care enough about him. Jesus was a humble and simple man who walked and lived with the simple folk. He was respectful and showed humility”. Juffa’s Governments contribution this year to the churches totals more than K500,000. His Government has also sponsored students to church schools and church health programs. In light of the truth about the incident published in yesterday’s national newspaper about Juffa one can really view that the article appears more to be a sensationalised media stunt trying to diminish Juffa’s great reputation in the community. As we all know too well, media stunts are employed all the time to try and fool the public. Would RH logging (thus the National) be in business with any of the foreign illegal logging companies that Juffa is up against? As Juffa becomes increasingly successful in shutting down more illegal foreign loggers in Oro Province it is more than guaranteed that more “media stunts” will be utilised against him. He is setting a precedent in PNG’s history and more provinces & LO’s are bound to follow suit. As the public we should all be aware that Juffa is fighting not only the illegal foreign logging companies but also our system & the few individuals in it that allow the corruption & theft of our forestry resources to continue. Wantoks for the love of our country “be very careful & scrutinise” properly all future articles by the National & other media that puts any doubt & tries to question Juffas reputation & leadership..dont be blind and discern appropriately any future media releases.
