MEDICAL HORROR Can you believe a patient can die during delivery - TopicsExpress

MEDICAL HORROR Can you believe a patient can die during delivery in this age of medical advancement? This was heard of in 19th and 20th centuries when the medical facilities and technology was not as advanced. But these modern day Medical God-Fathers have taken us back to stone-age. Jyoti Goyal, aged 26 years, a lively lady living in Phool Bagan, Kolkata, West Bengal was under treatment of Dr. Mridula Vora, during her second pregnancy (she already has a baby boy aged 3 years). On Monday 14th July, she went to Dr. Mridula Vora’s clinic wherein she was advised to get admitted to Bhagirathi Neotia Hospital, Kolkata, where her sonography was to be done on the morning of 15th July, and thereafter she was to be discharged. But on 15th morning, suddenly the doctor decided to operate on Jyoti and made a frantic call to her family. The operation started around 10:30am. At 11:12am a baby girl was delivered but the patient party was informed only after 12:30pm that the patient was critical. Apparently some grave mistake was committed by Dr. Vora that time itself and the patient passed on the Operation Table. They did not have a cardiologist nor an intensive care specialist during the initial operation procedure. All this was somehow arranged between this slot of 11am and 12:30pm to hush up the issue. Thereafter for an eyewash the doctor informed that there was significant blood loss during the operation and that blood had to be arranged from outside. Blood group O+. Can you imagine a so called star hospital, so ill-equipped for intensive care, it doesn’t even have a blood bank, and the most common blood group at that, which affirms that it has absolutely no infrastructure for intense cases. Blood was arranged after an hour and the body was lying in a pool of blood on the operating table. Another eyewash at 1 o’clock from Dr. Vora that her uterus had to be removed to curb blood loss. The uterus of an already dead patient was removed. Another eyewash at 2 o’clock that they were giving fibrillator to revive the heartbeat. Thereafter the patient’s body was shifted to the I.C.U. Finally at 2:45pm, the paediatric doctor Dr. Lodha called in the patient party into the I.C.U and divulged that they could not save the patient. A shocking revelation came to light later. At 2pm, when the patient’s body was shifted to I.C.U, the group of doctors discussed among themselves that they shall keep the dead body for the whole day and night of 15th July on ventilator and would declare her dead the following morning i.e. 16th July. This was clearly overheard by a patient’s mother in the adjoining I.C.U. But when the deceased patient’s family insisted that they wish to involve their family doctor to monitor the progress, the doctors felt trapped, re-grouped, re-consulted and finally declared her dead at 2:45pm. What’s even more horrific was the fact that the body was delivered to the patient’s family, for her last rites and rituals in unstitched condition. Height of Socio-Terrorism. Furthermore, the death certificate mentions that the patient was in the 32nd week of pregnancy, whereas Sonography reports of the same hospital proves that she was in her 35th-36th week of pregnancy. Even as per LMP recorded, the latter holds good. It also mentioned that the patient had low B.P. Why did they operate on the patient in such a condition in the first place? Why was U.S.G not done when she was admitted for it only? Why other investigation not done before operation? There are many questions that need to be answered. This was purely a case of medical negligence and horror. Dr. Lodha somehow tried to console the patient’s family in the lobby by giving half-baked accounts while Dr. Vora slipped away stealthily from behind, to avoid facing the patient’s family’s wrath. It sends shivers down one’s spine to learn that a 26 year old lady goes for a delivery with new hopes and dreams, and instead falls prey to the hands of the inhumane doctors and hospital authorities, who treat the patient like a commodity. They have left an entire family in shambles, having committed an irreversible damage. They can refute these accusations using all technicalities and power, but the more they try to save their skin, the more there is slush on them. Anybody who refutes the above charges promotes this crime directly or indirectly, or are courtiers of this heinous crime. We pray that nobody henceforth falls prey to these demons. Even if the doctors get away with the legal loop and self-conscience, they should not forget that there is an almighty that has its own ultimate judicial system. CIRCULATED IN PUBLIC INTEREST, LEST THEY BECOME VICTIMS TOO
