MEDICAL MISHAP #459: Took Rosies fluid hydration bag and gear - TopicsExpress

MEDICAL MISHAP #459: Took Rosies fluid hydration bag and gear up to my studio and hung the bag on a high-up curtain rod. Strung the tubing down to an easel tray and plugged-in the sterile needle. Went back down and toted Rosie up there. I sat on a chair, grasped her at the shoulder skin, pulled the cover off the needle with my teeth and inserted the needle under her skin, making sure to hold up the skin and fur so there was space for the fluid. I reached up to flip off the flow lock and she tried to bolt! The needle slipped out and I jammed it into the skin right to the bone just below my left thumb. I got it back in her and with the right hand I grabbed a piece of tape to stick on the wound, which was spurting blood. That stemmed my bleeding for a while but after we were finished (150ml) I changed out the bloody blue tape for two bandages and a spot of Neosporin. This happens. I did almost the same thing when treating Chauncey out in California back in the 90s. Ill live. But I would make a pretty awful veterinarian. I also called the vet about not having her on antibiotics yet and they are getting a bottle of Clinimycin ready for me to pick up in the morning.
