MEET EMMA FRANDSEN Where are you from? Danville, California What is your major? Clinical Nutrition What is you background in fitness? I was never very athletic or flexible growing up, and I was terrible at practically every contact sport. I did Irish dance for several years and ran cross country in high school, and I loved the outdoors--going camping and hiking with my family and friends. But it was not until I found yoga that I really started getting into health and fitness. Thats the great thing about yoga; you dont have to be flexible or fit or have a certain body type to practice. You just have to learn to listen to your own body, and move and breathe in a way that honors it. How did you get interested Yoga? When I was in high school, I took a yoga class at a studio near my hometown on a whim and was immediately hooked. It was like I had found a piece of me that I didnt know I had been missing. Then during my first year at Davis I went through yoga teacher training, a ten-month process that changed my life. I was very shy and insecure growing up, and yoga helped me find my voice and my identity. Learning to push past my perceived limitations on my mat encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone off the mat as well. Taking charge of my health and well-being through yoga inspired me to improve myself in other ways, and to live a happier, fuller life. As a teacher, I hope to inspire others to do the same. What do you like most about teaching Yoga? I love the energy that it gives me; getting to teach is always a highlight of my day. I love connecting to the people in my classes, and seeing them grow and progress. I love getting to share something that I am so passionate about. Teaching yoga centers me, makes me feel calm and uplifted, and more importantly, it helps others feel better too. What do you hope people will take away from the classes you teach? I hope they get out of it what I got from yoga. I hope that it makes them feel alive and empowered, and more connected to themselves. I hope they see it not just as a physical practice, but as a tool for transforming your life. Yoga can make you feel healthier, stronger, more balanced--both physically and mentally. Yoga encourages you to love yourself enough to take care of yourself, to strive to be the best version of you that you can be. Above all, I hope they feel inspired to take charge of their health and well-being, to cultivate happiness in their own lives so that they in turn can positively influence the lives of others. Have any fun facts about yourself? I loved chimpanzees and idolized Jane Goodall when I was growing up. I got to see her speak when I was 11, and still have a letter she wrote to me saved in my room.
