MEET IDINA!! Hi! Idina here to tell you my story. And what a story I have to tell! Im a a four to five year-old Pit Bull mix. I was a single and homeless mom who gave birth to six beautiful pups in late March. On April 7th, after hearing about my plight, some nice folks from animal control took me and my family to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. The shelter was so crowded that we spent the first several days in a cage on the shelters front porch! But at least we were getting food and some shelter. I tried my best to be a good mother under the circumstances. While I didnt mind people handling my pups, I was hesitant to let just any old dog get too close to them. It soon became clear that the shelter was no place to raise a family. All too often, pups would be taken by rescues, while the unwanted mother was left behind, and often facing a death sentence. My situation was all the worse because I was a Pit Bull mix and heartworm positive. On April 25th, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania lived up to its name when it offered to take not only all six of my pups, but me as well! There was just only little catch: I needed to get my heartworm treatment done and paid first. Counting on its kind supporters, RADAR agreed to cover the costs! Just when I thought all was well, tragedy struck. Two of my precious pups died the last week of May. About the same time, the shelter staff noticed a lump on my neck. The tumor was promptly removed. I did get some really good news on June 4th when the vet told me that the mass removed was benign! I finally was able to get my heartworm treatment done on July 26th. What a relief! The shelter staff described me as: Super sweet and low key. Idina is polite, softly kissy, friendly and affectionate. And I overheard the vet say: This little lady has a lot of love to give to some lucky family.
