MEET RYDER! Easy Ryder’s free-wheeling road trip ended on December 10th when he got parked at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Ryder is a two to three-year-old Labrador Retriever-Shar Pei mix who is the perfect size for cruising! Everyone thought there might be some Ducati in Ryder, but unfortunately, his vet exam showed up something more like a moped: Ryder was heartworm positive, and wouldn’t be revving his throttle on the adoption floor. Mary Lou Seymour with The Heart Beat Goes On program began networking Ryder on December 12th. Almost a week later, Ryder was still at risk on death row. On December 18th Mary Lou asked RADAR for funding assistance in order to provide an incentive to any interested rescues. We agreed, and on Christmas Day Ryder received the gift of life from Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut! Ryder wasted no time putting his paw to the floor. On December 26th he was on a road trip to Chesterfield, South Carolina, where he would stay at Sandy Crest Kennels while receiving his heartworm treatment. Ryder got his treatment done on January 12th. Ryder is handsome and energetic, fueled by a passion for running and romping. He is a bit hyper but calms down easily. He takes treats easily and shows no aggression towards other dogs. Liz McNenny, his driver to Chesterfield, says, “Ryder rides well in the car and loves hugs. He is a great family dog and will tire out the kids playing in the yard. He is a quick learner and just wants to please!” Ryder is all tuned-up and ready for his next adventure.
