MEET THE ATHLETES OF CHINA GRAND PRIX 2014 The athlete roster of the 2014 WWL China Grand Prix Athlete promises a tight competition and a host of intriguing personalities from 13 different countries. 2013 champion Jhonathan Florez is bringing his Colombian flag and his first-place flying form back for a shot at a repeat. Jhonathan and the other five top six finishers from last year are automatically guaranteed a place in the 16-pilot finals tournament. Those five are 2012 champion Julian Boulle (South Africa) James Boole (United Kingdom), Noah Bahnson (USA), Vincent Descols (France) and Espen Fadnes (Norway). Jhonathan, Noah, Julian and James just finished filming wingsuit stunts for the Point Break 2 film currently in production. American Andy Farrington comes to Tianmen Mountain for the first time, but he is already considered to be a serious contender as he just won the inaugural Red Bull Aces race and counts more than 3,000 wingsuit flights among his 20,000 total parachute jumps. Australian Christopher “Douggs” Macdougall is one of WWL’s 2012 Grand Prix veterans and he returns to race with us again. The colorful, cheerful and intensely competent Aussie is also the WWL’s only published author, with his biography Confessions of an Idiot that continues to sell worldwide. His YouTube series BASE Dreams is also popular with the fans of wingsuit flying. This year’s Grand Prix also features more women athletes than ever before to determine who is the fastest flying woman in the world. WWL 2013 veteran American Ellen Brennan is joined by American adventurer Katie Hansen and Italian model and extreme athlete Roberta Mancino. Some of the other famous jumpers coming to Tianmen Mountain to vie for glory and hard cash include the leader of GoPro Bomb squad, Marshall Miller, whose recent video Giant Zip Line, with YouTube personality devinsupertramp, has received millions of views online. Jokke Sommer is one of the wingsuit pioneers on Youtube and his Dream Lines videos have inspired an entire generation of wingsuit proximity flyers. He is a veteran of the 2012 Grand Prix and we are happy to have him back. As the sport of wingsuit racing grows, many highly experienced skydiving legends are joining the action. Among them is Canadian Jason Moledzki, who has dominated world canopy piloting for nearly a decade. It will be interesting to see how his experience and relentless competitive determination match up against our current pilots. This year, the WWL partnered with Norway’s World BASE Race (WBR) to find new talent. The WWL is proud to announce the following top WBR finishers have been invited to the 2014 GP. They are Norwegian BASE veteran Tom Erik, WBR silver medalist Yuri Cordeiro, and Australian Rex Pemberton, who not only sports an impressive wingsuiting resume (he does demonstration flights with his wife, top aerobatic pilot Melissa Pemberton) but is the youngest Australian to have climbed The Seven Summits – the tallest mountains on all seven continents.
