MEET THE CAST OF GODSPELL - MICHAEL JONES (COMPANY) Michael - TopicsExpress

MEET THE CAST OF GODSPELL - MICHAEL JONES (COMPANY) Michael Jones (Company) – Michael is the middle school band instructor in Shenandoah. He is married to Michelle and has four children. Christopher is a math educator at UNI, Brandon works in Iowa City, Britni is a Pre-Med student at Evangel in Springfield, MO and Nathan (also in GODSPELL) will be studying music education at UNI this coming fall. Michael started his theater career as Capt. Big Jim in the Operetta LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE way back in high school and he was hooked from that point on. Michael loves the feeling you get as you take on another character and the camaraderie one gains as part of being in a cast. One of the great things about being involved with theatre is the opportunity for new experiences. Since that first experience on stage, Michael has worked with lights, acted on stage, designed and built sets and directed both high school and Community Theater. Michael has two experiences that stand out as highlights of the past 30+ years. First one happened two years ago when Pam Lewis asked him to be a member of the orchestra for the musical MUSIC MAN at the Wilson in Red Oak. While playing music in public is certainly not a new experience for Michael, playing the keyboard in an ensemble was. What a great experience for Michael personally and professionally. The second standout was sharing the stage with his son Nathan in the Musical OKLAHOMA last year. It was a little strange fighting over the same girl (Misty Wissel as Ado Annie) but sharing the stage with him was certainly an experience that he will never forget. Future roles? Well that is hard to say. Michael looks forward to the opportunities as an empty nester this Fall. While he will miss having Nathan around, he will also enjoy the opportunity that lies ahead being involved with community theatre and choirs. Michael once said that involvement in the arts is a great vocation, but it is also a great hobby that allows for involvement at any level, no matter the experience or talent. “The arts, in my opinion, are what separate us for all the other animals on the planet. They are core to our human nature. Whether listening to great music, reading a good book, watching DANCING WITH THE STARS, staring at a masterpiece or admiring great architecture, the arts are all around us, they are a part of us, they are what make us human and they must continue to be supported in our schools and in our communities.” Watch Michael on stage, again with his son Nathan, in the production of GODSPELL – being performed August 1st and 2nd at 7:30pm and August 3rd at 2:00pm at the CHS Cardinal Theater.
