MEMBERS OF CONGRESS: As a Lifetime Member of the Association of the United States Army, I write to urge you to enact legislation that will eliminate sequestration as it pertains to the Department of Defense (DoD). Our nation faces a wide range of national security threats around the world. As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey testified recently, "I am living in the most dangerous time in my lifetime right now, and I think sequestration would be completely oblivious and counterproductive." One year of sequestration already has had severe impact on equipment, maintenance and training accounts. Ending the continuing specter of sequestration must occur soon and must not occur on the backs of our federal civilian workforce who are already laboring under a three-year pay increase freeze and furlough days. Defense contractors have reduced workforces and budgets because of sequestration. I urge you to direct IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND EFFORT to a solution that will end the "death by a thousand cuts" that sequestration is imposing on our defense forces. Thank you.
