MEMBERS of Agang SA have decided to expel the party’s leader - TopicsExpress

MEMBERS of Agang SA have decided to expel the party’s leader Mamphela Ramphele following her decision to accept an offer by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to be its presidential candidate in the upcoming elections, it emerged on Wednesday morning. Agang SA provincial committee member in Gauteng Sakhiwo Yako told broadcaster John Robbie on Talk Radio 702 that party members had decided to fire the leader of the embattled party. This revelation flies in the face of what Dr Ramphele and DA leader Helen Zille said during Tuesday’s announcement that a joint technical committee would be formed to integrate the structures and volunteers of the two parties in a merger. Mr Yako told Business Day on Tuesday that Agang SA would not merge with any party ahead of the elections and that he remained a member of Agang SA — the party he would vote for at the elections regardless of who its leader was. Dr Ramphele insisted that while not all Agang SA members were aware of her decision until Tuesday’s announcement, she consulted with the party’s leadership about the merger and her candidacy. She dismissed Mr Yako as a member of Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Mr Yako said he moved from Mr Malema’s party to Agang SA. The New Age newspaper reported on Wednesday that the party would elect another leader to become its presidential candidate at the polls later this year. Agang SA was due to hold a press briefing at its offices in Braamfontein later on Wednesday.
