MEN IN DANCE Against the Grain since 1996 MASTER CLASS… to expand your creative movement experience! Who: Boys and Men. (Boys ages 8 to 18 and men of any range of dance experience) What: Creating Your Performance. Where: University of Washington Dance Studios. 256 Meany Hall for the Performing Arts 4000 15th Avenue NE Seattle, WA 98195-1150 When: Sunday, October 6th – 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. How much: $25.00 (Group rate - $5 off for groups of 5 or more, $10 to observe) Format: The boys will work with one teacher while the men work with another for an hour. Then for the second hour they will swap teachers for another dance experience. For the last hour the groups will come together to put into practice the tools learned in each session and create a group performance. Master Teachers: Christian Swenson has an extensive background in dance, mime, voice and improvisation, and is known for his pioneering work in a form he calls "Human Jazz", a global fusion of dance/drama/music for body and voice. His work as a solo performer and teacher has taken him to many schools and communities throughout North America, Asia and Europe. Christian has received Fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts, Washington State Arts Commission and Artist Trust of Washington. He teaches in the theater program at Seattle University. Gérard Théorêt is a former soloist with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Trained in Britain as an actor, he has performed roles from Shakespeare to Lloyd Webber. He toured as Associate Director with Phantom of the Opera. He was a professor of Drama at the University of Alberta and Full Professor in Dance at Cornish College of the arts. For the last five years he toured with Cirque du Soleil as Artistic Director of Corteo (2007-10) and performing the role of The Baron in Saltimbanco (2010-12). He works internationally as a master teacher, choreographer, and director.
