MESSAGE OF APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE, August 24, 2014 I am - TopicsExpress

MESSAGE OF APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE, August 24, 2014 I am pleased to thank all the members of DPA for todays landmark. Our group has become 20,000-members strong. We started in February of 2013, exactly 18 months ago. We were inspired by a degree of displeasure that we felt when we say a horrific instance of jungle justice in Nigeria, which was shown worldwide. We also realised that, indeed, jungle justice, abuse of rights and deprivations, ranging from gang-rape, to mass-extra-juducial killings, to blatant abuse of power and suppression of an entire population or a significant part thereof, were among the biggest challenges we face. We felt a need to start talking about these things and to begin to demand for change. While fighting injustice could and should come from very many angles and methods, we chose the angle of justice, rights, and due process and we chose advocacy and creation of awareness as our methods. To accomplish this task, we needed to have an atmosphere where we could conduct intelligent discussions in a civil and courteous atmosphere. Before we can successfully fight for the rights of our friends, we must show that we can respect the rights of our enemies. For this reason, we adopted the method of debating and disagreeing vigorously but without name-calling or other disrespectful or discourteous methods used in other groups. We have our rules and regulation to guide us on civility and the principles of the group. Even though circumstances at the beginning of the group led to the situation whereby majority of our members are Nigerians, the group is intended to be an international, professional and intellectual gathering. Americans, Europeans, Arabs, Asians, other Africans, etc are members of this group. We must respect the international flavour of the group and its global outlook. DPA is a group where you can come and participate in discussions and exchange of knowledge and ideas regardless of your gender, your profession, you ethnicity, your nationality, your religion, your economic status, etc. It is a land of equal opportunity for all who seek justice and who want law and order to prevail through due process. I am happy to welcome our new members. At the time, I want to thank our existing members for their consistency ad contributions to the group. The fact that we rose from few to over 20000 members in 18 months speaks to the quality of our members and the universal validity of the groups mission. Expect to see some new programs and projects in the group. The ultimate outing would be our end-of-year Liberty events in 25 cities all around the world. Thank you for your time and patience.
