MGB participates in regional law enforcement summit The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) joined the other bureaus under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture, Department of the Interior and Local Government, United States Agency for International Development-United States Department of the Interior, and the Philippine National Police in Region IVB in the first Regional Environment Law Enforcement Summit in Region IV-B held recently. Mines and Geosciences Bureau, December 22, 2014 The Summit, which was organized by the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee IVB in coordination with the DENR, aimed to gather law enforcement agencies in the Region to develop a consensus on the state of environmental law enforcement, formulate a plan of action on environmental law enforcement for the next two years, and to be updated on the recent developments on the basic environmental laws of the country. Local government officials, led by Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso V. Umali Jr., attended the Summit. Also present were DENR-Region IV-B Regional Executive Director Oscar C. Dominguez, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Region IV-B Regional Director Ruben J. Jardin, PCSupt. Dennis J. Pena, and officers of the Philippine National Police from Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan. Engr. Danilo D. Deleña, Officer-in-Charge of the MGB Mining Tenements Division, presented the salient provisions of the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 (RA No. 7942) and its implementing rules and regulations, as well as the updates on Executive Order No. 79. For their part, Atty. Josephine V. Sescon and Dr. Edwin M. Mojares, both from the MGB Regional Office No. IV-B, discussed the prohibited acts under the said Act, and updates on the geo-hazard mapping and assessment of the island provinces, respectively. Representatives from the Biodiversity Management and Forest Management Bureaus of the DENR and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources presented the salient provisions of the pertinent laws of the country. The second day of the Summit focused on the Workshop on environmental law implementation, which was participated in by the various provincial police officials. The activities culminated with the presentation of the groups’ outputs and critiquing by the event’s organizers.
