•MGN-AFRICA» Edo govt, NMA, others mourn Omoruyi: EFFUSIONS of pain and fond memories of the late former Director General, Centre for Democratic Studies (CDS), Prof. Omo Omoruyi, who died on Sunday night during a protracted battle with cancer, aged 75, have continued to greet his passage. A statement by Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria, said “Prof. Omoruyi’s death is particularly painful because he was a personal friend and confidant. I will always remember his unqualified contributions to my gubernatorial campaign in 2007 as Director-General of my campaign organisation. “As governor, I was also able to tap from his wealth of knowledge in the governance of the state. His death has robbed Edo State and Nigeria of a forthright man, a great intellectual, a man who gave his all in his service to the nation. His contributions to the development of our democracy remain indelible.” And while Imansuagbon described him as a democrat and scholar who struggled for the entrenchment of democratic culture through the CDS, a statement yesterday by the President of Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, said Omoruyi left behind “indelible footprints in the sands of time; he showed uncommon courage in his inspirational struggle against prostate cancer. “We also use this period to remind Nigerians to cultivate the right habit of regularly consulting their licensed and duly registered medical doctors/dentists for periodic health check-ups in view of its benefits, which include prevention and early detection of all forms of cancers and sudden deaths.” #frontpage @OfficialMGN pin:231B0D40
