MILITARY charities Erskine and SSAFA have won the fans’ vote to share £15,000 from the new RCF Fans Forces Fund. Erskine, a charity which Rangers supporters have traditionally backed over many years, won 34% of the vote, with SSAFA finishing second with 17%. Over 1,600 fans voted from a shortlist of 10 forces-related, registered charities to determine where the target fund of £15,000 will be donated at the end of this season. Erskine provided nursing and medical care for members of the Armed Forces and cares for more than 1,300 elderly and disabled ex-Service men and women each year. Erskine has homes in Glasgow and Bishopton, both of which have benefitted in the past from a donation from the Rangers Charity Foundation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We are delighted to receive this donation, and be assured, it will make a huge difference to the lives of our veterans." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Erskine Fundraiser Alan Moss said: “We are so grateful to the Rangers fans for their terrific support. We are delighted to receive this donation, and be assured, it will make a huge difference to the lives of our veterans. It’s only with the public’s help that we can continue to provide the high standard of care of which Erskine is justly so proud, and that our veterans so richly deserve. Well done to the Rangers Charity Foundation and their outstanding supporters – and on behalf of all Erskine veterans, a very big thank-you!” SSAFA provides lifelong support to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force and their families. Each year, its staff and network of 7,500 volunteers are there for more that 50,000 people, ranging from D-Day veterans to the families of young soldiers wounded or killed in Afghanistan. Rob Littlejohn, SSAFA Branch Chairman, Glasgow commented, “We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who voted for us. Receiving this donation means so very much to our volunteers and all those who we help. This money will be used to ensure that the military community in Scotland continues to receive the care and support they deserve in times of need or crisis. It is only with generous donations such as this that we are able to carry on our vital work in support of our Forces and their families.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Receiving this donation means so very much to our volunteers and all those who we help." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connal Cochrane, Manager of the Rangers Charity Foundation commented, “Our fans have always given us incredible backing and I am sure they will continue to do so this season to help us raise funds for the two fantastic charities, Erskine and SSAFA, which have been chosen by our supporters to be the first beneficiaries of the new RCF Fans Forces Fund. “We will of course continue to work with our International Partner UNICEF on our ‘One In A Million’ campaign, and with our community partner The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, as well as with our new National Partner which will be announced in due course. “However, we are delighted to add this new charitable initiative to our range of projects, which acknowledges the admiration and respect our supporters have for the brave men and women of our armed forces.”
