MINI-REVIEW OF SALINGER: If you have any pretense about being well educated -- if not literate -- you should catch this amazing film. I and a party or three thoroughly enjoyed this newly released documentary, which not surprisingly received very low ratings from Rotten Tomatoes: Critics rated it 34% while audiences gave it 57%. We all liked it because exposed the genius and anti-social, reclusive behavior, of one of the countrys greatest authors. Rotten Tomatoes summarizes the film: SALINGER features interviews with 150 subjects including Salingers friends, colleagues and members of his inner circle who have never spoken on the record before as well as film footage, photographs and other material that has never been seen. Additionally, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, John Cusack, Danny DeVito, John Guare, Martin Sheen, David Milch, Robert Towne, Tom Wolfe, E.L. Doctorow, Gore Vidal and Pulitzer Prize winners A. Scott Berg and Elizabeth Frank talk about Salingers influence on their lives, their work and the broader culture. The film is the first work to get beyond the Catcher in the Rye authors meticulously built up wall: his childhood, painstaking work methods, marriages, private world and the secrets he left behind after his death in 2010. His estate will release several erudite yet unpublished works starting in 2015.
