MINISTER ADHIKARI CALLS FOR SUPPORT TO WRITE CONSTITUTION Minister for Health and Population Khagraj Adhikari has called for the cooperation from all sides for writing a democratic republican constitution that wins the hearts of all citizens. Addressing a greetings exchange and tea reception program in Pokhara today on the occasion of the Bijaya Dashami, Tihar, Chhath and Eid festivals and the Nepal Sambat New Year 1135, minister Adhikari said . Minister Adhikari said all the political parties need to take the country towards economic prosperity by promulgating constitution to the people within the slated date. PM KOIRALA MOURNS DEATH OF 20 PEOPLE IN DOTI BUS ACCIDENT Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 29 people in a bus accident occurred at Katkate of Chhattiwan VDC-5 in Doti district yesterday. In a condolence message today, the PM has extended heartfelt tributes to those killed in the accident and wished for speedy recovery of the injured. Extending condolences to the families and the relatives of the people who lost their lives to the accident, the Prime Minister prayed that may the almighty give all the concerned the power of forbearance at this hour of grief. He has also assured that the government will initiate necessary steps towards minimizing the road accidents by upgrading the roads already constructed as per the demand of the local people and need making them scientific, keeping regular watch on the condition of the vehicles and mobilising the bodies concerned in regularly checking the carrying capacity of vehicles and the weight of the luggage of the passengers. UML OFFICE-BEARERS MEET A meeting of the CPN (UML) party office-bearers took place at the UML parliamentary party office, Singha Durbar today under the chair of party Chairman KP Sharma Oli. The meeting focused on the Constituent Assembly and Legislature-Parliament meetings scheduled for tomorrow. The party has issued a notice, directing its lawmakers to compulsorily attend the both meetings. The meeting also discussed the contentious issues in the constitution-drafting and other contemporary issues; party Chief Whip Agni Prasad Kharel informed the media after the meeting. NC HOSTS TEA RECEPTION The Nepali Congress organised a tea reception at the partys central office at Sanepa today marking the Bijaya Dashami, Deepawali and the Chhath festivals. Party president and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, Deputy Prime Minister and general secretary Prakash Man Singh, general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and other leaders welcomed and extended greetings to the leaders and cadres of different political parties attending the reception. KOJAGRAT POORNIMA TODAY Nepali in home and abroad are marking the Kojagrat Poornima – the full moon day today as part of the final day of the 10-day-long Bada Dashain festival by worshipping and paying homage to Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The Bada Dashain festival formally concludes on the day of the Kojagrat Poornima with the devotees offering worships to Mahalaxmi at their homes in the evening. TRANSPORT ENTREPRENEURS AND TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT TO BE BLAMED UCPN (Maoist) on today stressed for holding Transport Management Department responsible for uncontrolled distribution of drivers license and transport entrepreneurs for carrying passengers above capacity and charging fares arbitrarily. Issuing a statement paying condolences to the victims who lost their lives in the bus accident at Chhatiwan of Doti district on Monday, Unified CPN Maoist wished speedy recovery of the injured passengers. Similarly, Rastriya Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC blamed the administrations incapability and naivety on the accident that saw more than 60 passengers sustain critical injuries. In a statement, KC pointed out the administrations weakness in allowing passenger buses to operate on narrow roads. Likewise, CPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal, in a statement, expressed grief over the demise of the partys Doti district member Bhagirathi Paneru and other passengers. All parties demanded compensation to families of the deceased and treatment of the injured. PM KOIRALA URGES TO WITHDRAW AGITATION Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has urged the concerned political parties not to go for agitation and engage in dispute as the leaders were seriously working to bring the constitution by January 22 based on a consensus. At a tea reception and greetings organized by the Nepali Congress at the party central office today, Prime Minister Koirala said peace and stability should be delivered in the country through talks instead of agitation and dispute. The PM also asked everyone to be confident about the timely promulgation of the new constitution. He also urged that all will be inspired to come for reconciliation after the tea reception that was initiated by BP Koirala in 2035 BS with the policy of consensus, coordination, unity and reconciliation. Also speaking at the tea reception, UML chairman KP Oli said NC and UML are committed to deliver new constitution by 22 January 2015 and consensus will be forged keeping national interest at the center. CONSENSUS ELUDES CPDCC MEETING The meeting of Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) is underway now at Singhadurbar, Kathmandu. The meeting of the committee is being held today for teh second time startin thsi evening in a bid to forge consensus on the four major contentious issues of a new constitution. The committee is not able to agree on the issues of state restructuring, governance system, judicial system and the electoral system in its consecutive meetings so far. Talking to Radio Nepal this evening, CPN ML General Secretary CP Mainali said the meeting is dwelling with issues of most contentious issues of new constitution and also about the report to be presented in the CA tomorrow. Earlier today, after the first meeting, committee chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said parties are close to a consensus on state restructuring and forms of governance. Stating all efforts were geared towards writing a new constitution through consensus, he reiterated that there is no alternative to consensus. Similarly, Nepali Congress vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel said that the meeting is focused on the topics of state restructuring and the form of governance. Likewise, CPN (UML) leader Surendra Pandey commented that the meeting failed to agree due to the respective stances of the parties on the issues of state restructuring and the form of governance. Kashmir: Civilians wounded as India-Pakistan border firing continues At least four Indian civilians have been wounded as India and Pakistan continued to exchange fire in the disputed Kashmir region a day after nine civilians were killed. India accused Pakistan of shelling 40 border posts and 25 villages since Monday night. Pakistan is yet to respond to the latest allegations. This is being seen as one of the worst flare-ups since the 2003 ceasefire deal between the neighbours. Kashmir, claimed by both countries in its entirety, has been a flashpoint for more than 60 years and the South Asian rivals have fought two wars and a limited conflict over the region. Death toll The death toll from a bus accident in western Nepal today climbed to 30, after five more bodies were recovered from the site of the mishap. A passenger bus carrying nearly 100 people yesterday veered off a hilly road and plunged around 300 metres into a gorge at Chhatiwan village development area in Doti district, some 700-kilometre west of Kathmandu.
