MINISTER FOR HEALTH LABOR’S PLANS FOR NEW HOSPITAL MEET THE NEEDS OF YESTERDAY 22 August 2013 The Country Liberals Government has labelled the funding announced today by the Federal Government for a new hospital at Palmerston as dishonest. Minister for Health Robyn Lambley said Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek had refused to provide additional funding for Palmerston Hospital only three weeks ago. She said Labor’s election promise for the new Palmerston Hospital is stuck in the past, narrow minded and the site does not meet the future health demands of Territorians. “The Country Liberals will deliver a bigger and better hospital than Labor,” Mrs Lambley said. “What’s been announced by Labor is a small health facility, with no room for expansion that meets only the needs of yesterday. The Territory Government will plan and build for the future when the growing population needs a bigger hospital. “The Country Liberals believe in a bigger and better future for Palmerston and we will make an announcement in coming days outlining our vision. “Labor’s plans have gone nowhere for 11 years and limited the future and opportunity of Palmerston and the Rural Area. “Delia Lawrie’s former government promised the people of Palmerston a new hospital, but all they managed to build in 11 years was a temporary fence. “It’s not surprising, just days away from the Federal election that we have Kevin Rudd’s Health Minister flying in to play politics with the health of Territorians.” For months, the Country Liberals Government has been asking for the extra money from the Federal Government in order to secure the bigger and better vision for Palmerston hospital. “Federal Labor couldn’t even build a 24-hour health clinic at Palmerston without the Territory Government picking up their slack, so how can they be trusted to build a 24-hour hospital. “After years of Labor failure, Kevin Rudd and Tanya Plibersek cannot be trusted to deliver this important project. “We’ve seen these kinds of Labor election promises turn to dust before.
