MINISTER OF WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE APPROVES EXTENSION FOR PBR USERS The Honourable Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Works and Infrastructure, wishes to advise the general public that use of the Priority Bus Route (PBR) by private motor vehicles has been extended for one month, effective Thursday, August 01, 2013 to Saturday, August 31, 2013. The conditions of use remain the same for the general public: Monday to Friday from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A minimum of three (3) persons inclusive of driver remains applicable No commercial/goods vehicles will be allowed access to the PBR during these times. Also, no private vehicles will be allowed to conduct taxi services on the PBR at any given time. The Honourable Minister notifies that, in accordance with the decision of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, this measure was intended to serve as an Experimental Traffic Scheme that is geared towards easing congestion on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and Eastern Main Road. The success of the measure was to be assessed and/or monitored with a view to making a final decision. A Committee was appointed by Cabinet for this purpose. In this regard, during the month of July and August 2013, an assessment will be conducted by the Committee on the success of the scheme and a decision will be made as to its future suitability in the realm of traffic alleviation along the East-West Corridor.
