Muslim means anyone or anything that submits itself to the will of ALLAH There are five pillars of practice in Islam. These practices must be undertaken with the best of effort in order to be considered a true Muslim: A) Shahadah - declaration of faith in the oneness of God (ALLAH) and that Muhammad (PBUH) is the last prophet of God (ALLAH) . B) Formal prayer 5 times a day. C) Fasting during the daylight hours in the month of Ramadan. D) Poor-due tax - 2.5% of ones savings given to the needy at the end of each year. E) Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once, if physically and financially able. (A) UNIQUENESS OF ALLAH (TAWHEED) Sahih Al-Bukkhari 469 Narrated Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet sent Muadh to Yemen, he said to him, You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allah. If they learn that, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers to be offered in one day and one night. And if they pray, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them Zakat of their properties and it is to be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor. And if they agree to that, then take from them Zakat but avoid the best property of the people.
