I want to discuss how people keep saying, “Oh, this kind of violence is terrible! Remember Martin Luther King, Jr. fought peacefully, not for this kind of violence. Shame on you Black people. Shame, Shame, Shame, over and over again. You know, people also say that if the protesters were not violent, the police would be calm and leave them alone. There would be no clashes. Oh, Please! (Arms crossed, side-eye). Think about this: During the time of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s leadership and non-violent protests people got burned, police used fire hoses on the protesters, sent rabid dogs after them, dragged protesters and beat them up with batons. The police did this even though all marched completely peaceful, not even hitting or attacking the police, not even once! They did not even “talk back,” just walked silently and peacefully while they were beaten and hosed. And y’all say shame on us, that protests should stay calm? Really?! After what happened back then, during the time of MLK’s leadership? Protesters still got hurt back then. We still get hurt today. It doesn’t matter how “calm” we are. Get out of here with your comments about MLK.
