MODERNISATION, MORAL NORMS, WHICH WAY? MORAL DECADENCE, AS A RESULT OF MODERNISATION, THE LEEWAY TO CALAMITOUS END As we just transited into this new month of August, it is indeed paramount to note that as we sends good will to our loved ones, we should equally bear in mind that this is also a time for sober reflections, a time to take a critical look at the world of today. But before I continue, can someone please tell me between moral norms and modern reforms which one should guide each other? I cannot help but to seek an honest answers to these and very many other questions that have seem to overwhelm the moral existence of the present world under the very feet of the Almighty God. I remember those early days when life was still as virgin as God had created it, when true love ruled the world, of course when moral values and ethics were still obvious. At that time, the fear of God was the beginning of wisdom. Women respects their husbands in total submission, children fevered whenever they do something wrong for the fear of being trashed by their parents or even elder ones. Then, the coming of Jesus Christ imposed a lot of sanity to very many people. Pastors and clergy men were close and receives message from God and so many other things. Today, I look at the world, and I sober. I, see a world were moral values and etiquettes have been threatened to its very existence, were quest for money has driven away the agape love that existed between brothers and sisters. A world were brothers are now against their fellow brothers, sisters against sisters, parents against their own children, children against parents, wife against husbands and husbands against wife. You can count on the number of divorces in the world today. Do I still need to mention women’s respect to their husband? That now seems like looking for a virgin in Owerri, why, because of modern trend. I see a world were friends are no longer trustworthy, helps no longer rendered to the needy for the fear of the unknown. Oh!!! What a world! What can we boast now of our moral exhibition when it has become a sore in the eyes of the Lord. Where do I even start?, Perhaps from the ladies of today? Ladies that have gone totally mad on the street all in the name of fashion and trying to adjust to the modern and western trend under their mother’s watch and approval. It is no longer news that men dresses more decent and respectful more than the ladies. I can still remember the good old days when men derives satisfactory pleasure for seeing a woman’s panties alone were they are hung outside. Oh yes! Because, that is almost sacred to them that they do not expose it to the visible sight of everybody. But what do we have today, ladies now hide their inner wears with their own body, we now see their rear end before the tiny rope they call undies. What a show of shame! I even videoed one in the class one day when her pen fell off to the ground and she was struggling to pick it up upon wearing a G****** under a saggy low waist trouser. What have we to say about the scenario were a man has derelict the biblical orientation of man and woman and now lust after his fellow man? Hnmmmm! It stinks. Vis-à-vis, women. God are you watching? Now, the worst is no longer that this happens, but the lobby of this orientation by top political class in the world, foisting this unhallowed, profane, secular, unconsecrated, immoral and blasphemous act to the world. God do not be silent any longer. Do we navigate a little towards leadership, perhaps ruler ship is a better adjective for the government of today. how does it feel when you are pushed into the gutters, driven out of the road and threatened to be shot if you don’t hasten out of the road just because a man who came to seek your vote, did all sorts of things to get it, including eating ‘’okpa’’ on the street, telling how he wore toured school uniforms and a half pair of sole less sandals to school, wants to pass through the road? Because our votes had empowered him to become president or governor as the case may be. The Almighty is to judge many things. Our rulers now use tax payer’s money to propose legislative laws that empowers them to earn their selfish desires and personal aggrandisement. Of course Senator Yerima is a good example. Most of the roads we use today, are now liking to death traps, but it does not border our leaders one bit. What do they stand to lose when the allowance for fuelling their private jets can pay the salaries of the entire University’s professors in two schools. As am penning down this piece, the impasse between the Federal Government and the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) is yet unresolved. Students have however been at home depreciating the little knowledge they garnered during the short period they were attended to in school. Is this not rather pathetic? Now this same FG runs to the media to accuse Nigerian graduates of being half baked. The most laughable is their requirements for job seekers were they often assert that international learning and experience are preferred. Na waa oo! Governor Okorocha of Imo State were flown abroad for purportedly sustaining little bruise from an auto accident. Why won’t he? Were our future doctors, surgeons, engineers etc., sit at home praying and only wishing for the strike to be suspended for them to continue their academic activities and some that had already graduated are still waiting for INDUCTION which will guarantee them of a working licence. Nigeria! Great Nation!! Giant of Africa!!! Before I digress totally from my topic, let me take a stroll into what is happening in our religious society today. During the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, God sort for a sacrificial lamb for the redemption of the world, someone without fear of death what so ever. Finally he volunteered his only begotten son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came into the world with lots of powers to perform lots of miracles. Indeed he carried out all his assigned duties, even when he suffered crucifixion he still maintained humility and devotion. Despite possessing powers that could destroy his detractors, free him and the other two criminals that was condemned to death alongside him, yet he still sacrificed his life for the betterment of mankind. Now do you think that God’s teaching are still doctrine in today’s religion?, Perhaps, is it religion that allows you to kill another, and expect virgins in heaven? Or religion that allows you to defile underage girls who can barely distinguish between injuries from menstrual flow? What about our clergy men whose quest for money, power and fame had actually turned them into mere political tools? Were pastors desire to own private jets and moves around with large chest bodyguards instead of Angels of God? Pastors now eat, dine and wine with corrupt politicians. Some even go to the extent of contesting political positions. Hnmmm! The list is actually unending if I wish to continue. So my brethren, when you look at all these happenings, you will agree with me that moral values have long been sacrificed at the altar of modernisation and this, if not put in check, will lead to calamitous end! Happy new month anyway! I rest my case.
