MOMENTUM BUILDS IN SECOND ROUND OF VMPA PAKENHAM PLUMBING SERVICES SERIES Building on the numbers that competed in the previous Series Round held at Heartland Raceway, Moama, the second round of the Pakenham Plumbing Services Series has attracted 21 cars to tackle the long standing and prestigious Modified Production Traders Derby to be held at Sungold Stadium, Warrnambool this Saturday night. All of the drivers that competed at Moama with the exception of Ballarat’s Garry Ainley who is awaiting a new motor, Ricky Clark who has an prior commitment and Dale Hallett from Rosedale will participate with the additions of father and son duo from Camperdown Gavin and Chris Catley. Both drivers are local club members of the Premier Speedway Club and will be looking to perform well in front of their home town crowd. Mark Sheen of Mildura Club will also be having his inaugural run this season after flying home from India this week where he has been working recently. Lastly, Mark Carlin of Geelong and Adam Holt of Portland will both be competing in their FG Falcons with neither driver having turned a wheel for the season yet. Drivers running well in the Series after the Heartland Raceway round are Russell Felsovary who leads the series followed by Avalon’s Justin Drew, John Benson of Corowa and Avalon’s Brenton Mills. However, many avid Modified Sedan followers will remember the brilliant final last season at Sungold Stadium with Martin Hawson of Mildura dicing with Ashley Parkinson who eventually took the win. Hawson drove like a man possessed and obviously knows how to put this car around the Warrnambool track. Another driver many will be watching with anticipation is John Benson in the Corowa 4 VE Commodore. Benson recently had a brief sojourn north to Toowoomba and no doubt gained some expertise from some of the Queensland talent resulting in Benson displaying some smooth calculated driving in an obviously well set up car at Moama which placed him in third position. Felsovary should never be discounted and is forever the dark horse. He is often overlooked in favour of flashier drivers but continually ends up on the podium as he did at Moama. Graham West of Bendigo has some ground to recover after a less than brilliant run at Moama when he encountered some mechanical difficulties with a rear brake hose. West will be looking to see if the rubber gets laid down by the sprintcars who are also on the program on Saturday night and if his infamous racing slicks will come into play. A slick track expert, West will be unstoppable if he gets to the front. Saturday night will definitely be a treat for sedan lovers with a quality field of cars from all over Victoria as they battle it out for the second round of the VMPA Pakenham Plumbing Services Series. Racing starts from 5.30 pm.
