MONDAY 9th JUNE 1997: I got up late and listened to the Smiths after feeling quite depressed about not working yet. I didnt put the Smiths on for this reason. I can honestly say I dont relate their songs to depression. I dont think they are depressing. They are cynical, melodic indie-pop songs. Anyway, I slowly got ready and then listened to the Seekers. I went to the city and bought my Charlatans single. Now, as I left the store, I saw Alanis with a couple of grebos. They seem to like sitting there. I didnt laugh or give her an evil. I kind of half-smiled to myself to try and prove Im not bothered by her but Im not against her. Then, I noticed a guy walking ahead of me, looking back at me. In white jeans and blue Arsenal t-shirt. When I noticed, he looked away. We both left the same entrance of the city but I noticed hed walked Pizza Hut way and I was going in the opposite direction. However, when I sat down on a marble wall, admiring my Charlatans single (How High), he walked past me. And looked. It felt like we were cruising or something. I got up and followed but I was turning left at the hotel and was going to do so whether he did or not. He didnt but I made sure Id caught up enough for him to see me go that way. He didnt follow and I felt a little disappointed. But if he was cruising me then hed be far too forward a guy, so theres my compensation. The thing that got me was that hed looked blatantly *twice*. Plus, I didnt recognise him at all, so I doubt he knew me. So why was he looking? *AND* hed changed direction, which he must have done very soon after Id left the city entrance for him to walk by me so soon after. Hmm... Once home, I pondered this in the armchair and had a nap after stuffing my face with buttered crispbread. I watched Birds Of A Feather and wrote yesterday and todays diary.
