MONDAY PHONE TOPIC NUMSA general secretary Irvin Jim has told thousands of striking workers in the retail and motor industry that the industrial action is indefinite. Thousands of NUMSA members earlier gathered outside the Retail Motor Industries headquarters in Randburg to be addressed by union leaders. Many petrol stations across Johannesburg and Cape Town are without attendants. Workers are demanding a 30 rand an hour pay increase across the board in all sectors for workers earning more than six thousand rand, a night-shift allowance of 20 percent of the normal rate of pay, and an afternoon shift allowance of 15 percent. On our phone topic today we ask: Have you been inconvinienced by the strike by workers in the petroleum industry?
