MONEY Albert Camus said that it’s a kind of spiritual snobbery that makes people think that they can be happy without money. Well, it’s hard to argue with one of the premier philosophers of the modern times. He is speaking the truth, isnt he? What can you possibly have without money? Only one word comes to mind- POVERTY! How do you get a decent meal at least two times a day, forget three? How can you wear a clean shirt in the morning if you cannot buy more than one? How do you avail a taxi, a bus, a rickshaw without a farthing in your pocket? Even a glass of water costs a buck in the roadside stall. You wanna have a small pack of peanuts for lunch; you better know the peanut-seller bloody damned well! Your only pair of shoes is getting worn, walking the streets with the sun boiling your brain, your only pair of socks torn to shreds; not even a scullery maid will use it as a rag. You collapse on a park bench after hours in the sun, in the rain, in the dust bowl of the city. What choice do you have? Do you have the nourishment to keep your body strength up? Can’t even beg, can you? Go and dissolve your self-respect in a glass of murky rain water and swallow it. Pride, what pride for a man without a penny in his pocket? You better go to a medicine store and read the labels, crash your fist through the glass case and steal a bottle of sedatives. Run, run, run..........to a place of shade, gulp the whole bottle and sit down. You will get a relief from the pain as you drift away from this misery called life, death maybe your salvation, or maybe not; who knows the fee of admittance at the Pearly gates? What’s that smirk on your face as you drift to the unknown? You think the world will give a shit, feel sorry? It won’t shed a tear, tears are only for people who have money, you bloody fool.
