MONEY PROGRESS: a new sense of "achievement" has been institutionalised by the Federal Government over the years and this seems to have led to the near collapse of the country. Now virtually all Federal Government Agencies and Ministries benchmark their achievements on how much money generated into the Federal purse (large chunks of this often end up in pockets of officials of the ministry illicitly anyway). Customs is always quick to tell Nigerians of having surpassed its revenue base as if that is the main mandate, so also are other agencies including even National Hospitals, immigrations, Universities, et al..the result being that the primary service mandate of the agencies are now abandoned for money making. Read the Tribune Report on the crashed plane in Lagos wherein some officials of the aviation industry are blaming the Ministry of mortally draining them of the fund needed for development through excessive taxes thereby necessitating some of the airlines cutting corners. Are these agencies set up primarily for money making?
