MONEY TALK Money makes life easier, right? But should it cost the earth to enjoy your hobby? We can all spend perhaps a little too much in the pursuit of the perfect pond. Not that I wouldn’t mind having the best koi in the world, the best filtration in the world, the best gadgets in the world, the best blade waterfall in the world, the best designed pond in the world etc etc...the list goes on and on. This is a hobby that is driven by perfection, so it is only by having deep pockets we can truly appreciate it. The average spend on a pond alone is in its thousands. So I’m afraid this means that only those who can afford the very best can enjoy the benefits of this hobby. But of course we know that to be a complete load of rubbish. A very wise old man said: “ I’m rich enough to own a Rolls Royce but clever enough to drive a Mini.” The man in question was the legendary Spike Milligan. The hobby requires a lot of commitment, we wouldn’t have it any other way, but we don’t all need to rob a bank to do so. The chance to meet all kinds of hobbyists from a wide range of backgrounds is what makes this community so compelling and inspiring. But he did also say: “All I ask is the chance to prove that money can’t make me happy”. I’ll join you on that one Spike!
