MORGAN COUNTY EXTENSION RECEIVES GRANT FUNDS FOR GARDENING INITIATIVES - INPUT IS NEEDED! - MEETING SLATED FOR JANUARY 8, 2015, FROM 10 A.M. TO NOON AT THE MORGAN COUNTY COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE - Thanks to Grow Appalachia, Foundation for Healthy Ky, Our Foundation for Morgan County and local contributors, the Morgan County Extension Service has received two grants to promote gardening and food preservation as means of accessing nutritious foods, making healthier choices, developing local food products for resale and improving overall community wellness. More detailed grant announcements from each funder will be announced shortly, but initially these grants will enable 20 individual gardens, 2 community garden sites, learning gardens at the Extension office/farm and programming at the new Extension commercial kitchen to promote value added farm products. To help oversee the implementation of these grants, the Extension Service is asking for volunteers to serve in various capacities including advisory board members, garden helpers, site managers and community advocates. Anyone with an interest in promoting local foods, gardening and healthier communities should feel free to attend an organizational and visioning meeting on Thursday, January 8th from 10 am until noon. The meeting will be held at the new Extension office located at the intersection of Hwy 460 and Hwy 172. For more information, contact Ag Extension Agent Sarah Fannin at [email protected] or call the Extension Service (after Jan 5) at 743-3292.
