MOST SEGREGATED HOUR: 11AM SUNDAY IS THIS CHANGING? Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., once said it is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven oclock on Sunday morning. If the church has been segregated, no wonder cities are segregated. How much have things changed? Thankfully, they are changing. The proportion of churches in the U.S. with mixed-race congregations—where no single group tops 80%—has grown from 7% in 1998 to 13% in 2012, according to an analysis of the National Congregations Study, a survey run by Duke University. We still have a long way to go, but barriers are coming down. It is so very important for us to remember this: Before we are black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, or other, we are AMERICANS. And if we are true believers in Christ, then before we are Americans, we are CITIZENS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD! Let the church say AMEN!!
