MP, MLAs and officers adopt schools, DC’s mission turns into reality PASIGHAT, JAN 23 Launching of “Adopt Schools” by East Siang DC, Nidhi Srivastava received overwhelm response from quarters. After years of work, her brainchild was a tangible reality. Notably under this scheme, MP, MLAs and administrative officers of the district adopted many schools in their respective localities while attending a coordination meeting chaired by DC in her conference hall here today. Srivastava in her address while clearing-out all doubts asserted that there will be no extra burdens for the mentors. We have to ensure that our concerted efforts and dedications bring some visible changes, leading the society towards improvement of education scenario of the district. The DC further informed that during her visits to several schools, she observed that attendances were not properly maintained. Classrooms, office rooms, toilets etc. need renovations besides developing the schools’ surroundings. She felt some extra efforts were needed that cannot be redressed by the education department alone. Continuing her mission to translate into reality, Srivastava pointed out that various ongoing rural and urban welfare schemes/projects are running in the district and small issues like restoration of electricity, water supply, maintenance of toilets, approach roads to schools etc. can be taken up by the leaders and officers as mentors with the help of their colleague officers making all schools students’ friendly. She appealed the MP and MLAs to spare some funds under their respective LAD funds to construct additional classrooms, toilets, etc. acting as facilitators and catalytic agents adopting one school by each of them. Unfolding her strategies, the DC apprised that there will be flexibility and individual will be free to choose one school to adopt. “Your valuable suggestions and ideas will give good courage and guidance to the school authorities and unscheduled visits will ensure full attendance of teachers and students. I will adopt Gandhi Sec. School and take special care for betterment of the school. I will definitely go and interact with the school fraternity at least once or twice in a week and will spare few times besides normal duties. I will take classes and if necessary will participate classes with students to monitor teaching-learning transactions,” she assured. She believes maintaining such activities as facilitators, a sense of satisfaction will grow in minds of having done something extra for the society and ultimately the entire society will be benefited at large. “Drop Boxes” will be placed in schools where in general public and officials can drop new or used pencils, pens, erasers, books, exercise-books etc. for poor students. Sharing some advisory notes, the DC appealed everyone to extend their best cooperation to the school authorities. “There are Principals/Headmasters and SMCs including experienced teachers in schools and we should not overtake or supersede them hampering their routine works. School fraternities have full right to enjoy academic freedom in the discharge of professional duties but they should also understand that healthy criticism has been always a key for improvement as we always learn from our mistakes and shortcomings,” she added in her deliberation. Listening to the call of the DC, Lok sabha MP Ninong Ering immediately adopted DEM HS School Pasighat while Parliamentary Secy. Tatung Jamoh and MLA Kento Rina adopted Sille and Koyu HS Schools respectively. Meanwhile, Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng and Pasighat MLA, Kaling Moyong considering broader prospects have assured DC to adopt schools in their respective areas soon. It is worth to mention that all the ADCs, EACs and COs of the district have also adopted schools during the meeting hoping that such initiative will inspire a movement towards better school administration.
