MR. WILLIE THEDFORD OCDC Guest Blogger “A MESSAGE TO MEN ABOUT BEING HEALTHY” As the years pass on, you experience the responsibilities of a demanding career, rearing a family, conducting business, and “Father Time”.…. and business is good. It is important to remember to take care of yourself; mind, body, and SOUL. Sometimes, it becomes just an after-thought, however, when the job gets “out-of-control,” and the children are “sassy”, or fatigue creeps in and takes over - you become out of balance. You’re not taking care of yourself! Approximately four years ago, I began a regiment of “NO MORE.” I resolved to spend “NO MORE” time neglecting myself for things that were not nearly as important as me and my well-being………..so I joined the gym. Working out has become an essential part of my physical well-being and an influence on my mental shape, as well. Leading health science reports have stressed a connection between muscle movement and increased brain function. Being a high school educator, encouraging young people to critically think begins with ME, being focused and keen. Also, physical and mental fitness has allowed me to be spiritually fit. No matter what a person’s faith or belief, it is important to acknowledge that we ALL are part of something BIGGER than ourselves. For 5-6 minutes in the morning, I meditate in total silence. During this time, I prepare myself for the day and give myself an opportunity to experience the tranquility. All set and I am ready to go………people have their regiments of health enhancers or stress releasers, and that’s OK. In a rigorous world, whatever a person chooses to feel good about their selves, while maintaining a healthy lifestyle, is great. Just do something!
